Did you know that TruPoint can help you navigate the significant changes at VMware that were announced for 2024? Our expertise can guide you through these changes, helping you make sound decisions on a go-forward strategy and leverage the changes effectively. Let’s take a closer look at the key changes and what they mean for you as a VMware customer.
New Core Offerings
VMware is shifting to a subscription-based model, focusing on two main offerings: VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF).
- VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF): This full-stack infrastructure platform integrates VMware solutions such as vSphere, vSAN, and NSX with the Aria management suite.
- VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF): VVF is tailored for optimizing data center environments in traditional vSphere settings. It includes standard features such as Tanzu Kubernetes Grid and Aria Operations.
These offerings aim to provide a streamlined approach to VMware solutions, making it easier for you to choose and use their products.
End of Availability (EOA) Products
VMware is transitioning several standalone products to be part of VCF or VVF. This means that some of your current VMware products may no longer be available as standalone options after May 6, 2024. However, existing subscriptions will continue to be supported for their remaining terms. The changes include:
- Reduction of bandwidth tiers for services such as SD-WAN and Enhanced Firewall Service.
- Discontinuation of certain deployment options for SD-WAN and VMware Edge Intelligence hardware.
- Transition to a software-only solution for VMware Edge Intelligence.
- Changes to hardware rental and replacement services.
Bring Your Own License
VMware’s new “Bring Your Own License” option allows you to purchase VMware Cloud Foundation subscriptions from Broadcom. This model offers flexibility, allowing you to deploy subscriptions across different cloud environments and on-premises data centers.
Add-On Services
VMware is introducing add-on services that enhance the core VCF and VVF offerings. These add-ons cover various needs, such as storage, security, and disaster recovery.
How Will These Changes Affect You?
As a VMware customer, you may need to assess how these changes impact your existing products and subscriptions. Here are some things to consider:
- Product Availability: Check which of your current VMware products are affected by the changes and their EOA dates.
- Subscription Transition: Plan for transitioning your subscriptions to the new VCF or VVF models when necessary.
- Explore Alternatives: If you’re considering alternatives to VMware, look into options such as Azure Stack, Citrix, and Nutanix.
- Stay Informed: Keep track of VMware’s updates and announcements to stay ahead of any changes that may affect your IT infrastructure.
